The Wood Coatings Research Group, WCRG, maintains research and development facilities located in High Point, North Carolina, dedicated to the testing, research, development, and study of coatings and materials. WCRG is an independent materials science research and development laboratory, and is uniquely positioned and poised to provide unbiased testing and research services. WCRG has a high focus on the study and advancement of coating science and technology.

Microscopy Laboratory

Wood Coatings Research Group maintains a variety of microscopes for the analysis of surfaces, particles, substrates, defects, film thickness, cross sections, film rupture, and delamination. These scopes are an integral part of problem solving, failure analysis, and testing. Our inventory of scopes include a model Unitron MS2BD metallurgical scope equipped for darkfield, brightfield, and polarized lighting; a Bausch and Lomb Stereo zoom stereoscope; a Leitz Otholux scope set up for transmitted and reflected polarized light; a Hitachi digital microscope.
